Bird of old days once breaking into husk (8)  S?E?D?C?   Looks like SHELDUCK but, apart from definition = Bird, why the rest?

The Chambers definition of Eld is actually ' archaic, age, old age or senility, former times or antiquity' - so I think the 'once# reflects the archaic.
