I hope they're not looking for a second term in office.  They'll be lucky if they're not booted out of the first!

Remind me what the Conservative Party did to curb illegal immigration?

They didn't give them council flats!

DDIL

\\Remind me what the Conservative Party did to curb illegal immigration?//

Not a lot, everything they tried to do was blocked by the bleeding heart lefties and labour.

And don't forget the less than useless ECHR!

Sooo full of excuses.

No excuses. Facts.

So you agree withy me then^

I presume you're talking to DDIL, webbo?

You'd be bloody seething if you're a Brit on a waiting list list only to be leapfrogged by these people wouldn't you?

The minister said Labour have taken action to "...significantly increase the number of returns..." I'm not saying he's wrong, but I haven't seen this reported, perhaps I've just missed it, but I'd like to see the context.

Yep

-- answer removed --

I listened to Mrs Balls on the wireless yesterday when she was questioned about this issue. The conversation went roughly like this:

Interviewer: “Home Secretary, you have decided against using RAF Scampton for migrant accommodation. You have stated that the Bibby Stockholm barge will no longer be used to house asylum seekers. You have pledged to reduce the use of hotels for such accommodation. Where will the people who are arriving here daily in small boats be accommodated?”

Home Secretary: “The government has inherited a broken system where asylum claims are taking years to be heard. We have recruited a thousand new case workers to clear the backlog. Those whose claims are unsuccessful will be removed and those whose claims are successful will be accommodated in accordance with the usual policies.”

I: “But where will those who are set for removal be sent to?”

HS: “The government has inherited a broken system where asylum claims are taking years to be heard. We have recruited a thousand new case workers to clear the backlog. Those whose claims are unsuccessful will be removed and those whose claims are successful will be accommodated in accordance with the usual policies.”

I: “Well lets leave aside the removals for a moment. Where will those whose claims are successful be accommodated?”

HS: “The government has inherited a broken system where asylum claims are taking years to be heard. We have recruited a thousand new case workers to clear the backlog. Those whose claims are unsuccessful will be removed and those whose claims are successful will be accommodated in accordance with the usual policies.”

I: “But where do those “usual policies” say they will be accommodated, bearing in mind you’ve ruled out many of the places currently used?”

HS: “The government has inherited a broken system where asylum claims are taking years to be heard. We have recruited a thousand new case workers to clear the backlog. Those whose claims are unsuccessful will be removed and those whose claims are successful will be accommodated in accordance with the usual policies.”

I: “But where will they go?”

HS: “The government has inherited a broken system….”

I: “Thank you, Home Secretary, I’m afraid that’s all we have time for.”

Just watcheded that, He could not say when asked at least 4 times where they would go. I know, they have a tree house in the no 10 back yard!

I'll tell you where they're NOT going, anywhere near Casa Balls.

Didnt Ms Balls promise to take in a few Syrian"refugees"a few years back? Are they still at her home? How many did she take in in total?

Perhaps now Mrs Balls has reached new and lofty heights of ministerial responsibility she might consider adopting a  double-barrelled surname.  Nothing too fancy of course - she being a true, caring socialist.   A simple added '-up' would do it.

... or -Out!

I remmeber before the election someone said "what will labour do? ", the response was always " Labour aren't in power, it's the Tories who are failing to tackle it"

Well now Labour are in charge. It's up to them to sort it out. So far it's looking like there's answers and no real desire to act, just deflect the question and blame the past. Let's give them a year to turn things round, but I'm not at all optimistic- I think we'll just rubber stamp more,  and the pull factor of a soft touch approach will bring more here.
