Former Defence Secretary, Sir Alec Shelbrooke said 'There will certainly be concerns under an unpatriotic Labour who are embarrassed about our country' and ex-PM Boris Johnson, who called the Chagos deal 'crazy' said 'Why are we doing this?  Sheer political correctness, desire to look like the good guys, as if we're unbundling the last relics of our empire. It's nonsense'.

I'm sorry I can't post a link but several papers are reporting it.

Starmer is, in my opinion, a danger to this country and the sooner he goes the better.

yep he's 5C.

How true. But it's Labour that needs to go not just Starmer. It will be a shambles.

Chagos was started by the Tory Government and finished by Labour. Is this a fact you are forgetting or ignoring?

this isn't just about Chagos though...

But Chagos is mentioned in the OP

When was he asked about the Falklands and Gibraltar and what was his response?

Naomi you are obsessed with Starmer.

The Tories may have started it but didn't carry it through. Labour didn't have to but what can you expect from a two faced government who withdrew the WFA which was introduced by themselves. Their arrogance and stupidity knows no bounds.

Corby, I suspect you're about to tell us.

Gulliver, either join the conversation sensibly or go away.  This is the News Section - not your playground.

My point is the tories started this 2 years ago, Starmer has only been in power for a short period time.
Most of the work was done prior to Starmer being elected. Maybe there is a point of no return.

Apparently Johnson has always been against it but both Truss and Sunak were for it. In fact, the talks about handing Chagos over began in earnest during Truss's short tenure. And had Sunak won the election, this would have happened anyway, and possibly at the same time.

Apparently, Biden wanted the issue settled before the American Presedential election was held. "Biden wanted certainty about the US Military Base on the Chagossian island of Diego Garcia just in case donald Trump were to win the election."

Apologies for the over-use of the word 'apparently', but we can't always believe what we read, can we.

DDIL, according to this, James Cleverley opened talks with Mauritius on the exercise of sovereignty over the Chagos but David Cmkeron blocked them.  The Consevatives didn't throw it away.

This is about the possibility of this imbecilic government ceding more and thereby, in a hugely volatile world,  putting this country at even greater risk.

What work?   The talks were blocked - but within a few months Starmer has agreed to throw away something of great strategic importance to this county - and to pay Mauritius an undisclosed sum of money into the bargain.  He won't even tell us how much of our money he's spending on this idiotic folly!
