Just 3 Uncertainties :-

 

Adhesive covering back of map apparently synthetic (9)           P?A?T?C?Y. Looks like PLASTICKY (synthetic) but, whilst I can see STICKY = adhesive?, I don't get PLA.

 

Silly to turn to carbon -- be sustainable (7) C?A???E.  Looks like CHARLIE (Silly?), and CHAR could be "turn  to carbon", but LIE...???

 

Pin is what keeps your hair in place when up (3) ??G.   If CHARLIE is correct, then it's L?G, but I don't get that (apart from Pin) - nor do I get NOG or PEG.

Thanks to all, but I don't get "PLA is a plastic" and I see no explanation for "covering back of map apparently".

Apologies L-i K, I wrote before I saw your post.  I'm sure you're right but, pedantically, I feel that PLA is the front of "map/plan" and N is the back of "map/plan".
