There hasn't been enough evidence. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence.

it's also suggested that whichever civilisation is first to attain true interstellar capability, will probably - inadvertently - eliminate all others. it's also possible that the destroyers will be us.
mushroom; "The Fermi Paradox is that there should be evidence of exterrestrial life, but there isn't. " - Any evidence would be so far away as to be undetectable. It's not a paradox just a function of the amount of space. Statistically speaking this galaxy and all the others are teaming with life but most do not seem to comprehend the sheer vastness of space.

the drake equation predicts millions of civilisations in this galaxy alone.
We puny earthlings have hardly dipped out toes in the space ocean, but we can detect atmospheric conditions on planetslight years away (e.g. WASP-39 b, 700 light years). I wouldn't be at all surprised if there is intelligent life elsewhere and if that life is able to detect our presence.
I do hope that evolution can lead to beings who have outgrown the urge to kill (we have always done it for food and survival). I am optimistic that there are such beings and that they are able to monitor us, in fact they might have seeded us in the first place. If there are beings millions of years ahead of us in science and technical matters, they might well have the ability to physically explore and visit, either from superluminal transport of themselves or what we call robots.
