Loving cat...

Last Monday I was involved in a serious car accident and ever since then my cat can't seem to stay away from me. I wasn't seriously injured, just whiplash.

I've always been the one he comes to for a cuddle usually, although he's not the cuddliest of cats and will tear your arm off if you stroke his belly, but since I got in on that day, and ever since, he follows me everywhere and wants to be on my lap all of the time.

He's 12 and very healthy and I can't really think of a reason for this sudden change in him- other than him being psychic!! :-))

What do you think? Do cats often change like this?(I'm thinking that my accident at the same time has to be coincidence).

Thanks in advance x x x

Haven't got a definitive answer, but animals do sense things. If I was ever ill, even if it wasn't outwardly obvious (!), my old dog would suddenly become totally undemanding and would just want to me close to me, often with his head just resting on my leg or pressed against my side. Quite uncanny really.

Youre not alone chief. I had to spend a few months on anti depressents a few years ago and the bloody animal wouldnt leave me alone. As soon as i sat down he was all over me. Same when my Auntie died, i felt really sad and the cat just perched itself on my lap and purred for about a week!

Our dear cat Smudge always seemed to know when anyone in our house was unwell, she used to keep looking at us, then gently snuggle up on our laps, or snuggle up on the bed beside us, bless her!
Cats and dogs are pack animals, and as such, are sensitive to the moods and changes in temperement of other tribal members. The behaviour thus descibed is typical of your pet sensing that you are unwell, and is giving you comfort and protection.
I recall reading somewhere (can't remember where exactly but either in a cat or science magazine) that its possible that cats use purring as a repair mechanism. Maybe he's sensed your injury and is trying to help you fix it.
Hi, I believe animals can sence when things arn't right with us humans, whenever I haven't been too well and taking to my bed my cats come and lie with me. Years ago I used to have a lovely cat called Aggie, I was in floods of tears because Pete Duel had died suddenly, Aggie came straight onto my lap and started licking my face as if she was comfortng me. xxx :-)
I'm sure they can sense when something is wrong. When I was in bed with flu a few weeks ago, our cat stayed with me almost all the time.

It is a well known fact that Cats can "smell" Cancer.

I think you're all right, that he's a touch psychic! He has started to go off by himself again, until I was upset the other day and he was waiting outside my bedroom door! Thanks for all your responses.
