I read a book many years ago about a couple who found a 30's map of Norfolk with a village on it which did not appear on any subsequent maps. It turned out that the village had been invaded by a German submarine in WW2 which contained either an atomic or biological weapon. This had contaminated the area so much that the village had to be removed and all traces of it obliterated. However the couple who found the map uncovered the story and tried to go public. They ended up being bumped off in a car accident at the end of the story.
would love to read it again.
