I just have to say how absolutley fantastic the docu series Trawlermen is. I've watched in awe both nights as these extremley passionate, hardworking men go about their day battling gale force and cyclonic winds in the north sea contending with broken nets and shortage of fish. All just in the hope that the skippers can pay his crew. I have the utmost respect for these men who risk their lives on a daily basis. Whats the name of the skipper on Amity? I really hope his next haul is a good one, he needs it.

Mountain, I'm gutted. I tried to tape yesterday's programme about the Penlee disaster and taped the other channel by mistake. This series MUST be repeated - do you know if they show it on Freeview, as my brother's got that and I'll ask him to video it. What incredible guys, they make you feel such a wuss in comparison.

I've been watching this - makes me queasy just thinking about it! And the thought of a tiny boat, over three hundred fathoms of heaving (spew!) water in the North Atlantic, with nothing between you and America because you're so far off the charts, oh, dear God..... It's been a really interesting and eye-opening series so far. I was amazed at the effort that goes into bringing a catch in.

Violetblue, I wouldn't worry too much as I'm sure it will be repeated probably in the not too distant future on BBC THREE, you can get BBC THREE on Freeview. Just get your brother to keep his eyes peeled for it's repeat.

Kim, your right, some scences are a bit stomach churning. The skipper of Amity in an interview said he even still gets a little sea sick very occasionally. It's definatley an eye opener. Im really glad there are others who share my enthusiasm for this programme.

You might find it'll be on BBC On Deman, if you press the red button, it was worth watching.

I missed Trawlermen on Monday night but caught it last night, I'll be hooked for the rest of week!

If you liked it you might like 'Deadliest Catch' on the Discovery Channel. It follows the crab catchers on the Bering Sea.

MB, I have to say, I had taped them and watched the first 2 together under duress as my boyf wanted to watch it so I went along with it but after the second one I watched I was raging that we had no more to watch. I have set up to tape the rest and can't wait to see what happens, I really hope the 2 older guys get a good catch too, it looks like blo*dy hard work!!

Wee Kaz, I rekon hard work is putting it lightly. In a way I'm envious as I've always been rapped up in cotton wool in a safe, boring office environment and yet these guys who never know if their next haul could be their last, must have some hair raising stories to tell their grand kids about their lives as Trawlermen. Great stuff

I have never seen this prog, when's it on??? What channel? I worked on a trawler for 1+ year and it was great. Hard work, but great. Smelly too. I was on the West coast of Scotland, really cold in winter with damp bunk all the time. Boo. But sitting here now, at my desk, in this mindnumbing office job, I wish I were back there................
I was the only lass at the job too which made it more challenging, male egos to contend with!

Yeah, definate respect due to you beerdrinker. If you don't mind me asking why did you stop working as a trawler....umm...woman or trawler...lady? is there a correct term?
