Please help solve a squabble

I'm chatting with someone via Messenger and we got talking about The Eagles song Desperado. Now this person is convinced the following lyrics in the song are spoken, and I say they are sung...........

If anyone can help, I'd be eternally grateful and he'd haveta admit he's wrong and shut his gob!!!!
