Can you reassure/ help me please
25 Answers
My mum will be home from work in around an hour and i think she might be very upset. I have just heard on the news that the company farepak hampers has gone into administration. My mum and her work colleagues have been saving all year to purchase high street vouchers for christmas.
Money is tight anyway and I would like to help her out by giving her more rent per month but i cant afford much more. I am scared that her work mates are going to turn against her even though its not her fault the company they have paid money to has gone into administration.

i have just read the same thing!
I am not sure of the exact amounts they all had paid in but i think some could have paid in up to 600. I mean i am not bothered by getting big christmas presents but i just worry about my mum and how she could feel like she has let others down. Howver it would seem there was no indication the company would go into administration.

Oh god i really feel for you - we had the same sort of thing with the red letters day - in the end we claimed back on the credit card we had bought the vouchers from. So i am not sure if that is a possibility - may be worth seeing if you can stop any payments right away to Farepak too - not sure what else to suggest hopefully someone in the know on here can point you in the right direction.
Really angers me as its so not fair - let us know how you and your mum get on. Ohh ring the citizen advice people they might know what you can do.
Is your Mum an agent for Farepak Hampers Steve?
I'm sure she will be upset but I can't see any reason why her workmates should turn against her, the article surreygirl posted states quite clearly that no-one had a clue it was going to happen. And presumably she will have lost just as much money as they have.
Just try and support her Steve, you obviously help her as much as you can financially and I'm sure she wouldn't expect you to give her more than you can afford.
Please try not to worry about it ,with out meaning to be harsh this is your Mum's worry not yours, you started off very positive this morning so don't let this pull you down.

hun look on the farepak site http://www.farepak.co.uk/ at their statement - there is a whole list of questions and answers:
2 Will I get my money back and if so when and how much? The Joint Administrators are working to realise the assets of the Company. You will have a claim against the Company in Administration and the Joint Administrators will be writing to the agents about this as soon as possible. At the present time, I can advise that you may receive back some money (but not all) and this will not be for many months.

Well yes i was having a good day but i do let things like this affect me as i worry about how mum and dad will cope finanticaly. I normally give 150 a month rent plus buy shopping and fill the car mum and i drive with petrol. I will see if i can give her 400 for nov and dec.
We are supposed to be going out for a meal for my birthday tonight but id prefer if we cancelled and saved the money. (tis my 24th birthday on friday)
Have just been listening to five live and the business reporter said it is unlikley that people will get any money as (a) farepak had few assets and (b) a bond set up which should ensure payment in these circumstances does not seem to be binding in terms of paying for this event.
Oh and yes my mum is an agent.

Horrible situation for everybody.
However, please spare a thought to the employees of the company who will be losing their jobs which will not only affect their Christmas, but their whole lives. I say this from the heart as I was in this situation when a large multinational suddenly collapsed overnight. The press was full of sad stories about customers and nobody gave the employees (over 3000 of them world wide!) any newspaper space!! The employees got any money owing to them two years later, but that was chicken feed compared to losing their livelihoods.
Having said said, I obviously do feel for your mother and others.

I'm a customer of Farepak and have to say I'm totally peeved at the way this has happened, Christmas is now cancelled in this household, saved all year for vouchers to get my son the present he's been on about since last Christmas and now it's all gone! So long as those involved in the fiasco sleep soundly and have a good Christmas, it's all that matters right?!
Hope your mum is ok Steve, just reassure her that she isn't alone in this mess and none of it is her fault!

I know this is real bad news and in the past i would have reacted just as you are in the situation BUT......i have learnt (its took me many years to change my way of thinking) that if you cant alter, change or affect whats just happened then dont get stressed about it. You will only make a bad situation worse by winding yourself up and getting bad tempered, grumpy etc. Instead look for any small piece of good that will or can come from it and work on that. The first thing i always think now when something bad has happened is - 'is anyone hurt or ill'?? The answer is no. Everyones still here and healthy . You have no choice but to pick up the pieces and move on clinging to, as i said previously, anything good that may be there. Also reading over previous replies, just be thankful its not YOUR job thats lost.
Sorry to hear whats happening steve, but these things happen all to regularly in this day and age. Its not your mums fault and hopefully people wont be hounding her to sort things out. Obviously there is nothing you can do about the administration and feeling sorry for yourself will only make matters worse. There are many more people, probably gonna be in a far more worse situation than you and your mum. I am not being mean, i just dont take to these sob stories about 'oh what will happen to the world, my mum has lost her job, i will have to pay more rent", She will just have to go out and find another job and hopefully you will help her...
Thnaks Mr Ben.
My mum does have a job this was just something that her and colleagues put money into each month.
Mum was not too upset, a bit more angry actually. I am not too worried now, and i am sorry to those of you who think this is a sob story but we are all entitled to worry a bit for someone we care about.
Mum had 350 paid in, and the others had much more. I hope some good does come of this in that there will be tighter regulation of companies such as these.

MrBen5 some people have been known to top themselves after losing their jobs and being in debt I knew someone that did. Not everyone can be so oh its no big deal but hey thats your opinion, so cool just I dont think Steve is on here trying to get sympathy or is bothered about his birthday prez he generally cares about his mums welfare.
Hell if it was my mum I would be the same It is an extremely gutting experience. Give me 300 of your money MrBen and watch me roll it up and smoke it and then see how you would feel.
P.s lol cool name bought the dvd the other week x

Ok well we are all after some sympathy but really i just dont want my mum worried sick about money.
Mr ben - my mum has not lost her job, being an agent is not a job but like an organiser with a small bonus.
I dont care too much for a great deal of money being spent on me as my dad does this a lot or has done over the years. He says well what do you want for your birthday, but there is nothing i want or need much.
I would prefer a home baked cake or meal but it is nice to go out for a meal as we only do it a few times a year. Anyway lets hope the administrators can find some money in the little assets that farpak had.
