We really appreciate your feedback. In making changes to the categories, we've tried to accommodate requests from as many AB users as possible, so you can each make the site truly your own.
We're hopeful that you will soon find the sub-categories a useful tool to get the answers you want quickly, and answer questions in your own areas of expertise.
Keep an eye out for some small changes that will make the new sub-categories easier to navigate they're coming soon.
We're working hard to improve the AB, and knowing what you think is the best way for us to get it right. So keep those ideas coming!

No best answer has yet been selected by AB Editor. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.can we please have some sort of one-click option to make ALL the subcategories visible (eg by clicking on the word 'Topics'), rather than going one by one through the current topic list to see where something is hiding? I know, it will be a long list, and some scrolling will be required, but it would help keep RSI at bay.
I'm not convinced about the usefulness of all the new sub-categories. I think that there is now even more opportunity for people to put their questions in the wrong category and it takes too long to plough through all the topics in order to find questions and answers which interest me and to which I could possibly give an answer.
I suggest you give it a month for us to try to get used to the new format, then run a poll.
Having said that, please keep the improvements coming!

Ed,
This question seems to be marketing bling, given so many staements of dislike and polite requests for change-back.
Specifically re Q&P ....
Good to know that you really appreciate our feedback .....
..... My suggestion is that you listen to the majority of negative comments re the changes in this sub-section.

Ed, whilst I think that some of the new categories will be useful (eg body and soul) I think that you've gone OTT and created too many! Travel is one area where I don't think we needed sub-categories, neither is History, though I know that Dot is loving the geneaology (have I spelt that right?!) section. I used to pop onto this site, have a trawl through my favourite topics then get back to what I was supposed to be doing, now it's going to take me about 2 hours to go through every sub-category!
I have already registered my dissatisfaction elsewhere.
In the section I visit most (Q & P) these changes are definitely not going to help people give answers. All the regular users of Q & P appear to be of the same opinion.

I would like to believe we have a caring AB Ed who listens to what we want and then acts on it.

after playing with it a bit it's not all bad, i think there are some sub-catagories that probably aren't necessary and the really quite ones will show themselves in time. questions on busier sections will benefit by hanging around longer, giving more people a chance to participate. i think giving it some time is in order, i've already changed my tune a tad in one day.
I tried not to make a judgement too soon, but while i can see that there is some benefit to having SOME sub-catergories, some are just a waste - politics and government, aren't these near enough the same?
If like me, you sit at your computer and think, i wonder what is going on in the world of AB and you then remember that you have all the sub-catergories to go through, it just seems a bit too much like hard work.
I think there needs to be a little fine tuning in the coming days, (performing arts, visual arts, do they really need their own catergory?)
We can then all enjoy the world that is AB!!
