chinese film black and white and sub-titles

recently (june/july) whilst living in spain i was watching tcm movie channel and caught a black and white film about a young chinese boy who had to go and live with his grandmother (who he hated) he treated her terrribly and made her life a misery, but she carried on looking after him regardless as his mother could not.
the story is very sad but ends happily when the boy gets older and he grows to love the old lady.
i have emailed many many film companies like tcm and hallmark etc but without a title at least, nobody can help me??
anybody got any ideas??
