Independent on Saturday xword 6257

I don't see any queries this week about the IoS xword which is an absolute stinker. I've answered it all bar two -- but several of these I have doubts about !!
19dn A girl somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea cried (6) _I_ _ _Y
22ac Religious type in retreats wearing orange layer (6)
_ _ _ I _ T ( but the T may not be correct -- the 4th letter of 19dn is 2nd of 22ac).
And, is 15dn one-booted or one-footed ? Might such a Gunner not exercise the right to shoot ?

My other doubtfuls are :
10ac Artist
11ac Lap dog (Mitch the Miller being a racing greyhound)
20ac is obviously pinafore but what's the golf connection ?
21ac why is parking zone "BA" ?
23ac acanthus -- such could be thus, and worker ant but not the two together, and what about the ac ?
2d why "normally" ?
Questions. So many questions !

ulysses - I've just written you an answer but it seems to have disappeared into cyberspace - please forgive if it reappears and dupicates what I'm writing now.
You made the same mistakes as me with 11a & 2d, but kayakamina put me right...11a is HOT dog, & 2d is narrowly.
NY round ARR (Aus rules rugby) + owl (hooter)
10a A(bsent) + R(ober)t + 1st (top) ...artists draw
20a Fore! is a warning in golf
21a sounds like Bay 6
23a anag such + ant + a (principle of ancients)

I can't remember having come across Scorpion before : I dare say we'll get used to him / her!
I wonder if some of the weekend prize puzzles are deliberately being made more difficult, to counteract the advantage of all the internet tools available to us solvers. I think the Times has also been a bit harder of late.
Personally I quite enjoy the challenge as long as I can understand the underlying logic once it's finished.
To digress: I think you do the Spectator - 1789 -Do you understand fully the answer to 33a ?
