That's horrible, looks like it could be William Blake?
Question Author
Thanks for trying Jamesy Boy but I don't think its William Blake.

I think it's wonderfully groteseque!

Anyone else wanna try??
OMG! How strange!

(It's don't think it's an ad for Burt's Bee's do u?)
Where did you find it?
Question Author
@ jamesy boy: a friend of mine posted in to me because I'm an artist....I should know these things apparently? I don't want to have to admit that I don't know!! :-)
I don't know who painted this but it bears a resemblance to the painting entitled 'The Death of Marat' by a French artist called Jaques Louis David

I think it's quite modern ..if you look carefully he has a cigarette in his right hand.
Question Author
that's true actually, and the star on his forehead would suggest modern too. Maybe it's an album cover or something..?
Do you not think he looks a bit like a sad clown ?
That domed head and the star ...I have Googled myself silly ..it's intrigued me now ....I have seen it somewhere but for the life of me cannot remember where.
Question Author
Yeah I've Googled all kinds of clown variations too!
And I've think I've seen it before too....arghhhh its really bugging me!!
Any joy yet? This is a very sinister image, I would like to know its origin.
Question Author
Still no luck I'm afraid, though I'm in agreement with shaneystar2 that it's a modern image.

It's still driving me crazy. Humpf!
Whilst it has a 'classical' look, it does look modern,
Clown star on head,
marble bath
smoking cigarette
apples floating in, what looks like, red wine (?)
bees like sleeves (why not rest of body?)
bee stings to mouth (eating honey - with hands (so explaining bees to arms only)?)
strange wound to right side of chest?
deep set sad watery eyes

You know, I googled everying from 'honey eating clown' to 'clown smoking in bath' - NOTHING! It's really starting to annoy me now - please! - someone find out something about it!

Has anyone seen any other pertinent details of the painting that I'm not seeing, that might lead to identifying it?
I'm intrigued too. been googling for ages but no joy. What an amazingly bizzare pic, gross but draws you in!!
Any joy yet?

Noooooooooo *sob*
Just to let you know Cherryberry, some of us haven't forgotten you.
I've been searching everywhere & asking everyone, but still no luck. I'm as maddened as you. But I will keep on trying periodically, as I'm intrigued as to who painted it.
