I've got most of the across answers, but nothing at all going down. Can anyone give me a hint as to the "problem"? Thanks

All down answers are the names of famous sportsmen or actors. The problem is that each clue contains more information than just these names! I won't say any more as it would spoil the 'fun' for yourself and anyone else who happened to look in here. Have a go on that basis.

Another way of putting it would be to say that the downs are the names of sportsmen and then some!

Hyena leaps out, with yen in the centre, but what about the "ha" for quarter ? (The only other animal that fits is a kyang but doesn't go with the clue !)
