belkin wirelessG 54mbps setup help plz?

hi im avin probs settin up my belkin wireless G router 2 my laptop (vista),i followed the installation disk and it says everythin has worked etc but then i get message on my screen sayin the router can not automatically set this up 4 me and i must do it manually (which i dnt av a clue how 2 do) now ive since been told its coz vista is newer than my router an the router cant find the vista software 2 set up automatically 2geva,so can any1 plz tell me wot i need 2 do 2 set my router up manually 2 my laptop??? my network is virgin media if that plays any part in it,thanks guys a hope sum1 knows as im totally lost an its gettin me down now.
