Mrs Attenborough.

I know parents rarely have favourite offspring, or at least shouldn't, but if Mrs Attenborough had to secretly say who of her sons she is most proudest of, which one do you think she would say?
Richard, who in his time a great actor and director. Oscar winner with Gandhi and the best scotch accent even in Jurassic Park
or
David, who could forget the close ups with the gorillas and the quite wonderful Life On Earth series.
Mrs Attenborough is probably dead, but speaking hypothetically.

I just couldn't warm to Dickie. I realise that he probably wasn't at all like the characters he acted and that this was probably the mark of his skill, but I just didn't like any of the characters he played
David on the other hand - who could not like him.
So she might have secrelty preferred David but which she would be most proud of - not sure.

I have a theory on this and any other question of relative rather than absolute value. You can't compare two successful people as each has done well in their own field and I would say if you run a race in two different directions both win.
Incidentally I visited Richard's house in the 80s to deliver a parcel but his wife let me in and I used the loo but he was out. So a little personal connection.

I would say Mrs Attenborough must be equally as proud of both her two sons.
David is one of the most fascinating people to listen to & his programmes second to none in the nature & wild life world.
I shall never forget Richard's role in 10 Rillington Place - he was asbolutely brilliant in that, albeit playing the very creepy character of Christie.
