trying to graduate from ordinary cryptics to enigmatic variations - a barred crossword (no. 767) from the sunday telegraph. It is evil! I don't even know where to start - can anyone help?

I don't know this crossword , but if it's anything like the barred crossword I DO do, the Mephisto in The Times, the one thing you'll definitely need is a good dictionary. Chambers being the dictionary of choice.
Other than that I'd just suggest you post some of the clues for the longer lettered answers to get you going !

Agree with the previous postings but to help you with this one --- what needs hightlghting can be found in the first and last rows, one word in the top row and one in the bottom, both of which run across the two answers in those rows. The unclued entries are characters from what you need to highlight and the unclued letetrs in the outer perimeter are the original French names for those characters. Think children's T.V. and a famous singer!!
