Today a French daily reports 'England is captained by Mincing Ninny who bawled like a baby as he left the field'. This prompts the question that should we now abandon the National Anthem at the start of a Euro 2004 game in favour of Mincing leading us in national bawling in anticipation of the ineffective performance that he is about to put up?
we won 2 world wars for them. perhaps we should write to the newspaper and highlight the ineffective performance they put up in 1914 and 1939 also? what newspaper was it? (not that i'm doubting you but i would be very surprised if they used the word "mincing" which is an englishism)
How about "un ne qui marche effminament" - in my finest schoolboy French? Typical of these people...not nearly as succinct as the English version! (Mind you, the two words probably came from French originally!)
What paper was this? I looked at several French reports of the game and they were pretty much unamimous in their verdict that France had got out of jail, there was no disparagement of the English, praise for their efficiency and 'le team-spirit'. This doesn't sound very likely to me.
Oh, and Darth, the French losses in two world wars exceeded British ones, so none of this about how 'we won' for them.
sorry i was being a bit cheeky. I don't recommend for one minute we write to them about the world wars. nor do i believe the French would be this crass to use such a phrase as mincing ninny either
