weird elastic/buttons on maternity jeans

This is probably a daft question but 1st time pregnant and just bought some maternity jeans and inside (literally near the hips) there is some elastic secured at both ends and a button which is secured to the jeans but through the elastic. anyone any idea what this is for??

Pull the elastic and fasten it where it is comfortable using the buttons. As bump grows loosen the elastic. I love my maternity jeans with the elastic/buttons, theyre so much better than when I had maternity jeans before and they had the big bit of elasticated material at the front!

The elastic probably has several buttonholes in it so that you can lenghthen it when your bump gets bigger. They do similar things with kids trousers nowadays.

Hi, no the jeans themselves have large areas of elasticated material - these don't seem to have anywhere to fasted to - plus, they'd make the jeans tighter if i were to attach them to anything. the elastic is only about 2 inches long....i don't get it!

Just found this on a website about types of maternity jeans:-

Button Adjustable: means that elastic with buttonholes cut into it has been fed through the inner waistband at the back of the item. Buttons on either side of the waistband then allow you to adjust the fit as your bump grows and can of course be taken in again as you regain your pre-pregnancy figure

Maybe this explains why they keep falling down!!! i think i need to have a good look at my jeans and work it out! Doh!

Did you buy the jeans in the normal size would wouldve needed pre pregnancy, or have you brought ones a bigger size than usual?

Blimey, I didn't know there was a science to it, and there was me looking forward to getting a bump! I am getting worried now, I will porbably end up wearing them backwards or something ;-)

I tried them on in the shop and they're under bump so managed a size 10 (how long will that last?!?)

you'll be pleased to know i had a look last night and the elastic was fixed at one side and the rest could be pulled out and adjusted! hurrah!!! i am decidedly much stupider during this pregnancy!! keep getting things confused and mixed up and i feel like my brain is running about 10% of the speed it used to! at least it's relaxing!
