Q I thought it might be a dive in because it's Steen's style but not his picture. Maybe he had did more than one version or someone else has faked it.

I have Googled as you suggested very, very, very carefully and on close inspection the painting is absolutely without a shread of a doubt, not the same as the one shown as question 1. The child in Q1 is not holding a doll in a shoe and there is no small dog in the left foreground.

If you go on the site "St nicholas feast" Not st nicholas eve
there is a drop down and the exact picture is there on number 6 festivals and parties and called the 2nd st nicholas feast . On mine when googled it is the first site followed by st nicholas eve then wickipedia hope this helps

Thank you for your patience, but I still can't find the rotten thing, It just does not want to be found by this computer.

I'm going to call it a day, quaff a couple of glasses of festive cheer and take up the challenge again tomorrow
