M - N - R miner or minor? I could argue it both ways but think I prefer miner. Anyone any thoughts please?

Unless it's for a Prize Crossword, it doesn't really matter.

If there is a cross-check with the fourth letter, that will answer the question for you - I am assuming there isn't.

This type of problem comes up occasionally - have a look at this exchange from a week or so ago which is on a similar, almost identical, clue.

As you will see, there are different ways of reading the clue......
