Question Author
how do you get MARSHALL HIS OFFICE to be LATRINE?
Marshall is the anagram indicator for 'alert in'. Latrine is a lavatory, especially in barracks, and 'office' is a euphemism for the same.
I can't see this one...

Marshall is a proper noun, while marshal is the verb "to arrange in order"...

A latrine is a lavatory, while 'office' is a euphemism for lavatory...

All seems a tad tenuous to me, although I'm sure someone will have a satisfactory answer!
Oops! I repeated Jascon's extra 'l' in Marshall. The clue in the paper has only one 'l', so I think my reasoning, with Lie-in King's added detail, still stands.
