This is my first question ever, although I have used AB for a few years now, so here goes! Could anybody explain why some of the clues in the D.T. Quick Crossword are written in italics?
It is something that has puzzled me for ages, but have never known the logic behind it. Today, for example, the first three across clues are written thus.
Thanks in anticipation.
They are a play on words - say them quickly and you will get a phrase or another word. A recent example was the words TAKE, KNOW and LOGICAL - said quickly the word that comes is TECHNOLOGICAL.
The play on words occurs each day and involves the first two across clues (but no italics). On Mondays there are usually three or even four words, which are also shown in italics. So today the top row reads VIC+TOR+EONS.
Knowing this 'secret' can often help you solve the connecting down clues! Monday's crossword is harder than the rest of the week, or maybe it's just me . . . .
