childhood imagination

can anyone tell me....
whats the point of us trying to develop and get a childs imagination to flouish...
only to find when we reach teenage years - we dont care, and in adult years - all we care or seem to think about are bills, mortage, politics and more rubbish which to be honest isnt even worth bothering to type.
seriously though...why bother to develoop an imagination if its never gonna be "really" used. i find it a shame personally.

I have a black horse and a white horse (they've been with me since childhood), go shopping with a horse and cart and have all sorts of wild adventures along the way.
I have met kings and queens, rock stars, film stars and the man of my dreams. :)
I suspect other people have better things to do. :)

Imagination is a key in some cognitive development. When we teach kids to read 2 things we do are to ask them to relate the text to what they know; Text to self, text to text, text to world. This is tapping into prior knowledge to help them understand. The next step is to predict events in the story. Being correct does not matter, it should be reasonable based on text and prior knowledge. Children who have not developed their imaginations can not do this effectively. They can not "see" the story in their heads. This has a huuuge impact in developing reading and reasoning skills.
As a secondary grade teacher the children who struggle with this the most tend to be those who were not read to early on or stimulated in that way as youngsters.
The inability to read effectively impacts one's whole life.
Just my opinion!

Got u at last Ethel.......its been you galloping around my farm at all hours wearing out poor Dobbin! I've had quite enuf of it as you never clean the stable, nor pick up the woopsies or even have Dobbin shod. As for pulling on his mane while you get your kicks you have pulled out all his hair. Dobbin has been gnawing the fences in frustration, another bill you've run up for me.
For goodness sake, at least check he's watered and wiped down before you leave him to get his breath. And another thing, time you cleaned up the tack.

naomi i wish there were more ppl like you. personally i always loved using my imagination, and talking to yourself when you're alone is supposed to be emotionally healthy.
i wish people did use their imaginations more, things like improvisation can be a lot of fun for both kids and adults alike. unfortunately any use of your imagination past 15 and you're considered a freak! i'm suffering from ME at the mo so it's difficult to get involved with stuff but when i recover i would love to join an amateur theatre group or something like that - that's what i'd recommend for you if you feel you need to be using your imagination more.
that said, i happen to very political myself, lol. and im afraid i do consider politics far more important. this is only because our world is constantly under threat from ppl and coorporations who want to own it for themselves, were it not for such people i would happily rejoin primary school for all the fun and games!! :)

If parents and teachers had never bothered to help a child develop it's imagination we would live in world devoid of books ,art and music .And a whole host of other things far too numerous to mention .
We all have the worry of day to day to life but if nobody had ever bothered to encourage my imagination I would find life very dull indeed .
People the whole world over use their imagination all the time to invent, write ,act ,build and design stuff and so on ad infinitim ,I mean how else do politicians manage to massage statistics.......they use their imagination :)

YOU ANSWER YOUR OWN QUESTION. BILLS MORTGAGE, POLITICS AND MORE RUBBISH. ALL THE MORE REASON TO ESCAPE INTO ONES IMAGINARY WORLD. So it is very useful, I've traveled the world with my head on the pillow, danced with the moari, ate noodles in *******, felt the cool sea breeze as I sailed around the med.
Imagination is an activity, which all of us perform every day. We plan and conduct our life according to the images that revolve in our minds. All the strivings, desires and ambitions have much to do with our mental images. We use our imagination constantly, whether we are aware of the fact or not, and whatever we visualize affects our attitudes, moods and state of mind. Whenever we think or plan our imagination is in action. This activity has a very important place in the life of everyone.
you need a bit more fantasy in your life, dannyday

There are some people who use their imaginations throughout life. When I'm not doing my boring day job, or worrying about money, I'm a painter and illustrator. Imagination is a must for this kind of thing and if I had enough work coming my way, I'd jack in the day job and do it full time! :D
Just think, every time you go to the cinema, or read a book, look at your favourite painting or even watch telly - what you're seeing was created by someone with a great imagination...

Thank you Barcelonic. What a nice thing to say. Oddly enough, I am involved with, amongst other things, an amateur theatre group. I dont act - but I do have plenty of cause to use my imagination.
Im so sorry youre so unwell, but hopefully youll soon improve enough to be able to join a theatre group or perhaps even help out in a primary school. Either way, youll be able to make good use of your imagination. Good luck, and I wish you well very, very soon. x
