I always thought of black diamond as coal....but then I come from Fife where there's a lot of it....well there used to be !

Well, yes but my Chambers Dictionary was showing coal as the plural Black Diamonds:

black diamond n same as carbonado2; (in pl) coal.

I lived in Fife myself between 1964 and 1971.

Ha ha - yes but only because my father left Rosyth for Devonport when I was 13!! I might still be there otherwise.

Fife is a great place and its population is increasing so it is definitely not a place to excape from. I've been here since 1966 and dont intend to go anywhere else.
