The first sounds like a snail or slug -- but that's a mollusc not an insect... Insects don't exactly have teeth at all. The second could be almost any reasonably fast-growing insect larva, or many other things -- so long as you are talking about its weight when it first starts...

1 is a garden snail. And NF is right in that snails are not insects.
