Can anyone help me with a Times xword from 1998, please? 1d Dressed in frills. Elizabeth Bennet initially had cold shoulders (7) 18d Gain advantage, having been out to attack (7) 9d Failure to relax, as a result of driving compulsion? (7,7) 6d Urgent bid to reconstruct city hence protest letters, reputedly (9,5) 1st word begins with t 2nd word - e - l - Thank you
Thanks to you all. I now have h as the 1st letter of the 2nd word of 9d and possibly l (for love) as the third letter so that rules out nervous tension. The h comes from backhand - the answer to " Shot in two parts of body" which I think must be right. Getting the two following would help enormously.
10ac Red nose , perhaps, that Continental got in fight (7) starts with b
12ac Approval given by merry socialsit in speech (4,5) starts with f
Any ideas, please?
Brilliant! Thank you. Only one to go now and when you read the clue you will understand why I cannot do it!
2d Brains are needed in this case (5) - - u - l
