Do you have any letters in place?
Question Author
16ac contains A+T
38ac contains L+M+R

These letters could be anywhere within the definitionless answers, which are both SHEEP.
I've been busy over the weekend and didn't manage to get a copy of this week's EV. Can anyone supply a link, please?
I have a sheep for 38a but only have the 'r' from the letters you quote. Obtained from a word for a miser used in Scotland plus the symbol for copper inserted in it.
correction: I have the 'r' and the 'l' but not the 'M'

Spotted my mistake & now finished! Off to post it now.
Hello everyone
Didn't get a chance to even open the EV last week and have only just had a good look at Mr O's concoction. I have sheep everywhere but (as usual) am confused as to what I am supposed to be worrying! My usual reaction to worrying and my sheep is to presume it is a dog and head for the gun cabinet, but I suspect it would not help in this case!!
Help.......................................

Regards, Devadolly

Worry the sheep by jumbling their letters.
The worrier is in the centre of the grid.
Hello DevaDolly, as always, I find your posts superb, please keep your gun in the down-ward direction! Not a foxy hint though!
MLN:RUGBY (Most intriguing monika MLN) My apologies for tardy reply, computer definately resting yesterday! I have been worrying like mad, but have come to the conclusion that that devious man Mr O has worried them into gobble-de-gook as the one's that become words don't seem to marry with the 'normal' clues. You know how that panics me.................

DocHH, How kind of you! I have been trawling the grey matter for literary dogs and wolves but can come up with no 5 worders, will now strain the brain with family Vulpes.

Many thanks all, for the help.

PS. Where are Novalis & Midazolam? No doubt finished EV & in the post by 7.05am Sunday...........
Hello Devadolly
Novalis and I have been using a different thread for this EV. It was started by Copelander.

Try looking in the centre of the grid. A block of letters on more than 1 row, and with some words spilling over into the next row. that feature the "CENTRAL CHARACTER"
Question Author
THE BEAST OF BODMIN MOOR!

DocHH, did you perform the op on Novalis?
Hello Devadolly,
I am so sorry that my last post prompted MLN:RUGBY to post the solution for the Central Character. I hadI actually thought there was a code of hints only on EV. MLN:RUGBY has now probably prompted me to stop posting for EV, Speckie and Listener.
Ciao
Hi DocHH!

Agree with your comment re the unwritten code but would ask you to reconsider about further postings. Your hints and help are always most useful and valuable.
Please, please can we just have one link to the EV, those of us who flounder and muddle whilst trying our feeble best, need to grasp and small straw floating past in the torrent. Confusing us like this is a very mean trick!

Regards

Devadolly

PS Have put it on the other site too.....
Hi Devadolly!

Totally agree that one thread is much better.
Hello Novalis and Devadolly
I will reconsider, but as soon as I see MLN:RUGBY on a thread I am out of it! I really enjoy the repartie of this site and it would be sad to lose it because of a direct answer on a thread on EV.
I am very sorry Devadolly if that direct answer spoilt your enjoyment of EV. I also was quite upset about the reference to me and your operation Novalis!
I also agree that 1 thread is best, but we really missed Midazolam posting the link! On the other hand Novalis perhaps we could do the thread in another language!
Oh! Oh! Oh! is this all my fault? Please don't get all upset gents (or ladies), surely the odd boob can be forgiven? DocHH how have I offended, you & what op - I can only believe it is by being 'thick'.............?

PLEASE don't be horrid and post threads in foreign languages - that really would be mean, I can only cope with a basic understanding and transliteration of Greek after I been there for 3 weeks (min) and everything else is vbery much a closed shop!

Regards
Hi DocHH!

Glad you'll reconsider. Which lingua franca would you prefer?

Anyway, off quizzing in a few minutes. I'm third reserve for the fifth substitute for our local pub quiz team and they're desperate this evening.

Looking forward to EV833 and hoping for just one thread and peaceful co-operation.

Alles gute.
Hi Devadolly!

I think DocHH was referring to MLN's response to a rather facetious I made yesterday evening. If that upset anybody I can only apologise.

All I want to do on this site is share ideas and help when I can without getting involved in the sort of petty squabble which seems to bedevil Chatterbank the odd times I stray into that territory.

As far as EV is concerned I still feel that it should be hints and not direct answers.
