Also 7d. I work with string, shedding some tears(5). L?C?R I can only guess 'lacer' but can't find it in Chambers. Any help appreciated

7d I put in LACER, as I found it in Collins ( the very last entry under LACE), but I don't understand the tears bit at all.

knock off the ates - ie some of tears

dzug, how clever you are! I was thinking of shedding tears as in "crying", so I fell into the very trap that araucaria had set for us.
