i have put Balaclava for the answer to the scene of light brigades charge and unless it is spelt with a K where i have the C in this particular case not sure.

It seems that sometimes it is spelt Balaklava - that's the best I can offer.
What about "bore witness" - attested didn't fit your letters, but asserted doesn't seem correct?

attested seems to fit in with my other letters. I have an electronic concise oxford dictionary but it only helps to a degree. When it comes to place names and peoples names it does not offer any assistance. Thanks for the help
