Good afternoon TL

1d of f ended
6d rabbit warren (getting a bit twee, aren't they ?

Question Author
I think the setter read his Beatrix Potter books over Christmas. Very, very twee!!
Happy New Year Big D.
Oh my gosh, me thought it was Cottage Gardens not Rabbit Warren as you can buy a cottage loaf(bread) + cottage is a house , yet, feel that BigDave44 is right for 6D as he has a very good cryptic head. Would think of bread as my dad is a master baker ;-)- have confectionery + bread on the brain!! Buns as in bunny rabbits and warrens as in where rabbits live- very clever ;-) !! Hey, what is wrong with a little twee BigDave44 ;-) ?! Like some twee every so often!!

Have a wonderful 2009 BigDave44 + to you thinklateral + good luck with all your prize puzzle entries too :-) !!

Do not understand your answer to 1d- please explain BigDave44 please. Hugs, Bea :-)
No need to explain- the penny has just dropped. Still, a little sexist a clue methinks- naughty Telegraph!!

Ciao for now, an Equalist, Beatrice :-)
F for female is sexist? I have heard everything now! ROFL.
of (asociated with)
f (female)
ended (ceased)

cottage gardens wouldn't have fitted. Assume it's RABBIT WARRENS
1d of (associated with) + f(emale) + ended (ceased) = offended (hurt)

I can't see why it is sexist - unless you thought that "off" was associated with women only !!

Always nice to converse with you, Bea!!
factor30 you are quite right. One of these days I will check my responses against the paper, instead of quoting from an ever decreasing memory !!
Sexist in the sense of the whole word- offended + then associated with female- like women are easily offended - it is infered. Language is just one of the ways , there are many others,in which women are put down/belittled even now in the 21st century + even in Western( free) society.

Am not a feminist, am an 'equalist'- believe in equal rights, equal pay + equal voices for both sexes + want both sexes to be treated with equal kindness/love/respect. A champion for anyone who needs help.

Always a pleasure to converse with you too BigDave44 or with anyone here with good common sense/decency ( intelligence + common sense/decency do not always walk hand in hand with one another) + able to thnk dynamically- outside of the box.

Only associate with people with open minds/open hearts and respectful natures + will not waste breath with those who are fools ( fools can be intelligent fools yet greatly lacking in common sense ordecency sadly both). Some fools are fools due to their ignorance yet if they are willing to learn then they will become fools no more.Have time for anyone who is respectful or decent. Ignore the rest as life is too short + have better uses for my time!!

Am a big fan of Beatrix Potter + she achieved a great deal for womankind + for the UK as she purchased much of the Lake District away from property developers + then bequeathed all the land to the National Trust therefore keeping it protected for us all to enjoy! She was a phenomenal woman + admire her much + look forward to one day meeting her in Heaven :-)

Ciao for now, Beatrice :-)
Not inferred at all! Offended is sexist just because the clue has female in it? Stick to non-cryptic crosswords Beatrice35 and you would not come out with the absolute twaddle you so often write!
Come on Catron, this site needs romantics like Bea, as well as perfectionists like yourself.
Romantic? There is nothing romantic about calling a perfectly valid clue sexist! The very fact that Beatrice35 still thinks the clue is sexist shows again that she should not be commenting on cryptic clues.
...and all of this, just because I thought calling rabbits "buns" was twee !!!
Hugs to you BigDave. Thanks for being a real sweet man with a sweet heart ;-) No worries, just like water off a swan's romantic back ;-) Oh my gosh, before my current neurological condition, hence the spelling mistakes, was a psychiatric nurse so very little bothers me in the way of fools or foolish words or any other kind of craziness. Also, sure of who I am so no unkind words cannot shake me. Rise above it all like a phoenix or a swan ;-) Am blessed to , as am married to my best freind in a husband who adores me totally + is my equal in every way ;-) Complete several cryptic crosswords every week + general knowledge ones as well as keep brain active with various lateral thinking Nintendo DS Lite puzzles. Am not a perfectionist or ever claim to be. Move to the beat of a different drum- dynamic in thinking + a dynamic optimist. Wish everyone here a most wonderful 2009- may you all be blessed with many ah( love, peace, joy, sublime happiness, R.A.O.K, (i) angel hugs(i) and friendships)moments , many a-ha ( wonder, Eureka, serendipity, light bulb flashing) moments + many ha-ha ( humour, comedy that heals, laughter medicine, seeing the funny side of everything even during challenging/dark times + taking self lightly) moments. May you think out of the box- see beyond sight or touch deeper than the mere senses. May you place kindness, good old fashioned manners, forgiveness, compassion + love above all else, for goodness sake + be the better individual always. Warm wishes, Beatrice :-)
Where is your kindness, Beatrice35? You have accused the crossword setter of being sexist - do you not think that is just a little unkind, especially when it isn't true?
