Maybe 10d would help: Dismissed team, and went for particular player (11, two words). I have an 'M' in third place, and am looking for an anagram of 'team and went'....

I have finally completed it with your boost along the way... although I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for a word that I was convinced must exist (23a Barry's character originally lost power (7) - I had E?ER??S and was convinced it must be (P)eter(P)an's, but I was obviously thinking of the wrong Barry!
