EV 856 Area of Doubt

Hello EV Wine Clubbers,
Jaques had me "doubting" for a while if I'd complete EV 856!
After the initial quest for gifts, and no chance of even starting to populate the grid, I resolved the last clue of Momentum and took a leap of faith as to where it would be entered. Everything then fell into place, more or less!!
Needless to say EV as always has relevance strewn all over the title and in this instance the names of the types of clues!
Copelander, it looks as if I hadn't lost all my lives after all, have you ever used the right hand column?

Sorry for the delay Devadolly, have had to do the washing and wiping up, post dinner. No dishwasher here!!
Certainly UK sourced Silverside, and even the egg for the yorkshire pudding, plus carrots were locally sourced!!! Not sure about cauliflower or broccoli! Looking forward to Jersey Royal potatoes though!! This latter subject will be an item for my recording for the next Sunday paper extracts for the Local Talking Newspaper!
How is population of the grid progressing?

hello all! Finally got into gear last week and completed half a left over EV and last week's offering. Very encouraged by my start this week and by the general (possible) theme - might have a chance!
My own forays into fermented grape juice somewhat limited at the moment due to mini PG's needs. A good excuse to go for quality rather then quantity! Hoping for a reason to crack open a '98 Gran Reserva Rioja this weekend as we dabble in point-to-pointing and it's Yorkshire's biggest race. Our boy might have a chance as he came 2nd 2 yrs ago - fingers crossed!

Well done DocHH - the local produce that is, when the JR's do come into season, make sure you don't buy any that are in a plastic bag or have been pre-washed. A JR starts to deteriorate as soon as it gets damp and should go straight from the washing water to the pan, that is why so many people moan about them 'not tasting the same', they are going off by the time they eat them. My cousin grows them!
Physicsgirl - don't give up the wine entirely, MiniPG needs to become accustomed ASAP.

Sorry to disappoint you Devadolly, but if I did post EV, it would not have been until 12.35 yesterday, thanks for the tips on JRs, I don't tend to buy prepacked, as I like to choose the smallest ones.

Physicsgirl - hope your horse was successful and that any bets you had came up. Enjoy your Rioja. Junior PG must be demanding enough to make you reach for it.
Devadolly - I'm sure you'll get there. Once you are in a position to slot some of the momentum answers in the starting points for the direction answers fill fall into place.

Hope the "examiner" seminar went well, I guess it was a calibration day, just to make sure there was no "inconsistencies" or even "areas of doubt" in marking between examiners.
Physicsgirl I echo Novalis's sentiments on point-to-point meeting. Hope miniPg is continuing to allowing you a full night sleep. The Rioja is one of my oaky favourites!

Success, finished dinner and finished EV. Good evening Dr. H.H. I haven't actually started Thursday's Speccie yet. I had visitors this weekend (a frequent hazard living in the Algarve). I had an early airport run this morning and then decided to go for EV first. The Spectator is next on my agenda, but will now wait until tomorrow. Ciaio
Wow! This has never happened to me before ..... had about 5 clues and was working out where (or rather how) to put them in the grid, when duty called me away. Then during the witching hour feed whilst half asleep, had a sudden flash of inspiration .... and my clues, when fitted into the grid this morning, leave me with no room for uncertainty - or rather they do, which makes me very pleased!
Novalis - the race is this Sunday, not had chance with the Rioja yet. Hope your examining is going well - I suppose it's nearly silly season for you. I will be returning to work on a part time basis at the beginning of July, which I'm dreading in a way.

Yesterday's meeting was about the new online standardisation and what it entails from our point of view and that of our team of examiners. The marking "season" starts in June and lasts on and off until after the last of the appeals come through, usually some time in October.
Physicsgirl, going back in July is good because the exams are behind you and everybody will be winding down ready for the Summer holidays.
