Could somebody please help me out with 13A? It's giving me more trouble that all the other clues put together.

A small hint as to the theme would also be very welcome. I have the grid almost complete but still no idea what it is all about.

13a You need a word meaning a remote control device , minus its last letter, leaving a Scottish word which an alternative word for a type of rocket.

The theme relates to an episode of a "old" well known TV programme series, and to the characters in that programme.

Christiana: these Inquisitor puzzles usually have an extra wrinkle in that we have to add or remove letters from the clues or the answers. The clue alone would not help you and explaining the whole thing would take up too much space.

I have finally figured out the rocket, thanks for that, but no further pennies seem willing to drop. I take it this is a series with two main characters? UK? And how "old" is "old"?

Yes UK -1970s - there is also extra help to be had from the disposition of the letters in the far right and left side columns.
