IE8 and Internet Explorer problems

seemingly recent automatic downloads have caused problems ........

First Problem:
Opening Internet Explorer is much slower after update download KB968220

Second Problem:
When Live Messenger is open and displays that I have emails, I click on the 'go to email' button, and get transferred to http://login.live.com/login.srf?id=2&svc=mail& cbid=24325&msppjph=1&lc=2057
{which is a Sign-In to Hotmail screen)

so two issues on this Second Problem -
why am I not transferred to http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0& rpsnv=10&ct=1223376108&rver=4.5.2130.0&wp=MBI& wreply=http:%2F%2Fmail.live.com%2Fdefault.aspx %3Frru%3Dinbox&id=64855
{which is the Windows Live 'One Windows Live ID' Sign-In screen that lists all my hotmail accounts}

why am I not automatically Signed-Into my email accounts?
{ On Windows Live Messenger I have gone to Tools / Options / Security / and unchecked the box 'Ask for my password when I go to hotmail ....}
