Feeling Guilty About looking for another job

Hi,
I've relocated to Scotland due to my husband gaining a really well paid job up here. I was lucky enough to have been employed by a school on a full time basis.
I live 23 miles away from work and have to travel through town to get there and the traffic is a nightmare. It takes me almost an hour to get to work. Because of this, and because I feel as though I am now in more of an admin based job (the job is not exactly what was described in job spec').
I feel as though my life is constantly sitting in traffic jams and being tired when I get home is taking it's toll.
I have found another job at a place nearly 2 miles away from where i live, it is more what i want as I would be in an advisory role which is my background.
- I just feel guilty that I am looking for another job. As the place I work at has very little people leaving etc. I feel guilty because I've only been in this employment for nearly 7 months now. I hope I don't upset them if I am lucky enough to get this job I really want. I will feel guilty if i have to hand in 1 months notice. You see in the job role i have currently, there is only me in the admin office. This is because my colleague has retired and they have not replaced him. I have told them that if i am on sick or holiday then the office should not grind to a halt, but this has fallen on deaf ears.

As long as you feel less guilty than they would, if they decided they did not want you anymore, then you will be OK.

dont feel guilty, go with your gut feeling. You need to do what's right for 'you' I've stayed at previous places due to loyalty & it was'nt respected in the long run! xxx

Yes, i think that's my problem - loyalty.

I am thinking that i need to look after myself as i've always put people before me in the past.

You need to put yourself first.

You employer would not hesitate to "sack" you if it suited them.

put it like this - if you leave someone else will get employment! you are doing them a favour.

Loyalty isn't your problem, but lack of assertiveness is. A job is a 2 way bargain. They are not doing you a favour employing you. You are being paid in return for your expertise, experience and productivity.

Your reasons for leaving are perfectly valid and I don't see how any employer would have a problem with you leaving for a job nearer to home and more in line with your employment background and experience.

Be assertive, positive and friendly in the way you resign and you will remain on good terms with them for future references etc.
