urgent! pls!

Pls help, I am handing in my uni project in a matter of hours and I have compiled 5 separate chapters with different headers and footnotes. The problem is I need to merge all 5 into 1 great big document. I've tried copy and paste and it overwrites the headers and footnotes. NB. I am using the new version of Microsoft.

Word allows you to create a Master document with sub documents. Type master document into the Word help and it will tell you how to do it.
