Can someone help with last two clues please.

10A Holy cow almost rejected motherless calf from the West (5) D?G?Y. These are definitely the correct letters. I can find dogie as a word, but the Y is correct.

11A Shooter has certainly included most that way (6)
?A?E?T Someone else earlier suggested gayest, which would fit (yes inside of gat) but how does the word "most" from the clue fit it?

10a Dogey is a variant spelling of Dogie
Ye God(s) ! < ( But dogey is not in my Chambers - although I don't have the very newest edition)

Thanks very much sarumite and kettledrum. I would have just put doggy and hoped for the best. I can see it now (reversed). Any ideas about the other clue?
HI Totterdown! I think it's quite simply .... gayest = most gay
Question Author
Of course, kettledrum. Idiot me! Thanks a lot. You both deserve those 3 stars.
It's odd that Dogey is not shown in Chambers, (it's not in my 10th edition either) ... yet it is included in the on-line Chambers! See here ~

Sarumite. It looks as if we'd both better put the 11th edition of Chambers on our Christmas wish lists!! This is the first time in 8 (?) months that I've come across a word for which I need the most recent edition.
Question Author
I have the 11th edition and it is not in there. Dogie is and says it can also be spelt dogy. But the spelling dogey is not in there.
Thanks for that info, Totterdown. I wonder which dictionary the Independent uses as its ultimate reference.
Question Author
Just found the spelling dogey in Collins. They say dogie, dogy or dogey. I do very occasionally find a word in Collins that is not in Chambers. These exchanges have been quite interesting. Thanks very much.
It's been interesting for me too.
It's obviously right, but 19d isn't in my Chambers either. Is it in Collins?
Apologies for disappearing so quickly last evening, but I "logged off" immediately after posting at 2254.

Yes, I also initially found Dogey in Collins ... I have the "Collins English Dictionary & Thesaurus" loaded onto my computer ... it's extremely useful for a quick reference.

Sorry didn't reply last night. Had to get some sleep. Faqir - the spelling is not in 11th edition of Chambers at all. Chambers just says Faquir, same a fakir. In Collins it is under Fakir, then in italics faqir, poor. So a couple in this puzzle not in Chambers, but on the whole Chambers is the best dictionary. Collins is the next best.
