I've been plagued by Trojans for some time. My usual program sometimes finds and zaps them, but not always, apparently. Trying to find a better one and checking comparison program sites, I found it's generally reckoned to be the best there is - by far.

Tenacity being my middle name (thanks, mum and dad!) I kept looking and thought I found one yesterday, and it's free. Tried it and it found 15. Not bad for a freebie.

I could give the site from where it can be downloaded but didn't wanna run the gauntlet of the many do-gooders and purists on here who'd only say I was advertising and that it was against some God-given rule, but can if prompted, if given immunity from prosecution.

more important to realise is that something like 60% of trojans are spread by free antitrojan software

you can name names without getting shot down ... if you mention iyogi you will be shot at dawn ... also if you mistakenly sing the praises of an obscure pile of cr@p which has no proved reputation - people will point that out also
Question Author
. . . hence my reluctance.
but then you'll never know if you've found the best software ever written ... or a false positive scanner plus trojan infector

one recent "find" found 1000s of baddies (or so it said) - trouble was this one wanted 50 to get rid of them

the dogs howl at iyogi (and the fickens cluck) - but generally speaking ... potential mistakes are pointed out reasonably well - everyone has their own favourites - but most people are willing to give their tuppence worth for nowt

.... what's the point in telling everyone that you've found the grail if you don't share?
Question Author
Simply because of moaning-minnies like you. You really don't know what to moan about next do you?

You can't have it both ways. Your first post justified my reluctance in giving more details and your second queries that very decision.

And what do you mean by 'I'll never know if I've found the best software ever written'? Why won't I? What you mean is that YOU'LL never know if I've found the best software written.

Yeah the Greeks had a lot of trouble with Trojans too. Beware when you find a free horse mysteriously left outside your door.
well well - piles nipping are they?

funny lew paper is normally good with klingons

if you see -
>>> you can name names without getting shot down
as being provocative ... your mummy really should take your teddy away untill you calm down.

Obviously you are just fishing for an argument -
>>>Tenacity being my middle name (thanks, mum and dad!)

I think I can think of a more appropriate name for you
Question Author
Now now ACtroll, calm down. Your obviously futile attempts of intelligent criticism is no reason to sink to personal abuse. Firstly, make your mind up which side of a discussion to join, then stick to it. To do otherwise only renders you open to being called an idiot.

LewPaper, you obviously can`t compete with AC`s intelligence, or wit, judging by your replies.
Also, reading through your question, you obviously knew it would cause argument. Why didn`t you just post the link, then we could have had a look. Maybe there would have been some criticism of the software, but it would have been more constructive.
Question Author
Thanks for your contribution Trish, but I think, unless that idiot's got two email addresses, you've failed to grasp the thread. There's been one or two comments suggesting caution, which I find fair and constructive, but apart from those there's only been one other contributor who can't seem to make up his mind whether to condemn the concept of a recommendation or moan because I haven't posted it.

Maybe I should've added in my original post that I installed this program a few months ago because I've been pestered with what I now know as trojans for some time, slowing my comp down, making it unresponsive and unreliable. Continual scanning removes some of them, but never the root.

Since its installation everything's as it should be - no further infestation, the computer's faster and more reliable. If anyone thought I'd just installed it without giving it a fair chance of success or failure, that's their problem.
No, it`s my own user name, wouldn`t think AC is the type to hide behind another user name.
Still don`t see the point in not giving a link.
The main criticism of links on here are the spamming posts from johnpol smith341 SiennaHughes and Edward 7897 for the paying site iyogi.
As your`s is free software, it would have been judged on it`s merits.
Question Author
Thanks again Trish. If you read my original post, you must've realised it was a bit tongue-in-cheek. eg Does anyone really think I wanted exemption from prosecution? The whole point of the post was to let everyone know about it, let them use it and to judge for themselves how good it was, but remembering how other recommendations have been 'welcomed' I thought a little caution may be in order.

However, since your mate's intervention my attitude's hardened considerably, leaving me with the thought that if I can find it, so can you.

Incidentally, I'll ignore any references to your mate's intelligence as being totally ludicrous but as far as his wit is concerned, I doubt whether he can even spell the word let alone give examples.
So what is this free software you are recommending?

Absolutely no risk in naming it.

Hiya whifffey

I was gonna keep it to myself now, so if I tell you, you'll keep it to yourself won't you?

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Now, mum's the work ok?
Shame you didn't scan a few of the other AB posts before posting your rather silly original missive. If you had you'd know that your marvellous discovery is already recommended on here numerous times already.

That way you could have also avoided all the subsequent abusive drivel that you also posted.
Question Author
Yeh, sorry about that. Trouble is I have a life to live so only go on here infrequently. It's ok for you who obviously spend hours on here with your encyclopaedic knowledge of every post and every contributor, but for the rest of us on this planet, things are a little different.
You don`t need to come on the site often, you could have just typed malwarebytes into the searchbox at the bottom, and found that malwarebytes is often recommended on here.
Question Author
I did. Next moan?
Question Author
Having finished the project I came on the computer today to do, I thought I'd have a look around other topics and found the same whingeing whiners, the same moaning minnies spreading their acidic and pointless comments everywhere. I can only compare it to the days when spotty-faced one-hit wonders suddenly came into money, buying a car far too powerful for their skill then crashing it, usually injuring someone or even worse. The cost of computers these days allows even brainless morons access to the web, sadly without the knowledge, skill or intelligence to know what to do with it, so with nothing more to offer merely pour scorn on the efforts of others.

Perhaps if they were to learn to read, understand what they're reading without their view of the screen obscured by their index finger, they might, just might write something worth reading.
awwww lew
you've finally shown your hand - and a nasty sticky little thing it is too

reading through this thread you contradict yourself at every turn

at this point there have been two other contributions - a funny from beso
and one from trish432

you say
Thanks for your contribution Trish, but I think, unless that idiot's got two email addresses, you've failed to grasp the thread.
so here you seem to be (unjustifiably) criticising her and not impressed

then you go on to say to her
There's been one or two comments suggesting caution, which I find fair and constructive,

but at this point beso's in the only other post
then
but apart from those there's only been one other contributor who can't seem to make up his mind

I don't care about your opinion ... but your flexible account shows you can't give a truthful account of what is there for anyone to see

idiots can be tolerated but outright liars are beneath contempt
lew you are just another sad little wannabe provocateur

>>>sadly without the knowledge, skill or intelligence to
>>>know what to do with it, so with nothing more to offer
>>> merely pour scorn on the efforts of others.
.... if the cap fits lew ...
Question Author
See you've finally been able to wipe all the fingermarks off your screen then troll.

I read your contribution several times but so far haven't been able to make sense of most of it. The only part I was able to decode was your assertion that I was criticising Trish. How? by querying that she's (hang on a mo, this concept is so offensive) a clone of you? And you say 'unjustifiably' - how are you in a position to know whether it's justified or not? - are you looking over her shoulder then? unless . . .

Are you sure you wanted to write all that? Besides it being a total load of garbled rubbish, you'll only post the exact opposite tomorrow.

If you have a month or two to spare, have a go at reading my post immediately before yours. Failing that, have someone read it to you. I think it may just strike home.
