telephone intercom system

i need a telephone/2 way intercom system for the upstairs downstairs to talk to each other.

i dont want to break the bank so does anyone have any ideas?

You might also find your cordless phone does a kind of intercom system.
Or at a push two tins and a piece of string!

or as the first answer says, if you have cordless phones, you may find they do it (mine do)

I was just gonna say gonna say about phones too. Get a cheap set of cordless (even DECT is cheap now) and chances are they will do.
