Pretty difficult one. Anyone else find the same.

17 across Suggesting you bow in one direction? (7)

- E - T - R - N Looks like WESTERN, but I can't see why.

7 down Native creatures in file, could one say? (8)

- I - D - I - - No ideas for this except WILDLIFE if WESTERN is correct.

Anyone any ideas, please?

'Western' comprises 'we' i.e. the setter is saying 'you' to us (get it???? and the 'bow' of a ship is the 'stern'

Yes, WILDLIFE. anagram of 'file' and I suppose 'native' is WILD?
I agree the answers but I thought the logic was :

17a you + bow in one direction ..... & .... we + stern in the other

7d wild is anag indicator of 'file'
How right you are, kettledrum. And I was so sure the 'bow' was the back of the boat! Thanks from me; frameshift will be pleased too. Timessolver (but not always . . .)
