I gave up smoking in February of this year (I went to a hypnotherapist and even though I am STILL cynical I haven't smoked since!!! - from 30 a day for 12 years)
That said, I think this ban is a disgrace. Alcohol causes far more damage to people's sytems, the amount of trouble it causes can be witnessed on the high street on any Friday night in any town. The long term effects are terrible but it is a legal (and even encouraged) and they are talking about 24 hour licencing!!!!
First they will ban the smokers, then fatty foods, then fox hunting, then santa in Birmingham....soon it will only be the fair headed 6ft tall blue eyed people - everyone else will be banned - Hitler is alive and well!
Public buildings I have no problem with - in public and in parks like Sydney is outrageous.
Another thought - seeing as Britain is a service industry now (very little manufacturing and even the call centres are going abroad) - if the service side drops (and pubs will close if people don't go to them - where next economically?
