Not too difficult a challenge this week, but I found the highlighting a little disappointing because of the lack of symmetry: a time-invariant version, omitting the central symbol, would have allowed more. I was awfully tempted by spin and noise. I'm not pretending for a moment that I could have done better, but I think other setters could have led us to a more satisfying outcome.

Bellabee, to repeat what has already been said. In relation to the position of your 7-letter word in the grid, think where you would expect your threes to be - kind of staring at each other - and how they might be 'distributed' on a rather dull day - not exactly 'full house'. Good luck - I know how frustrating it is to be unable to complete that last stage.
Many thanks, Cruncher. That clears up one thing but the penny has yet to drop. i see two interesting jumbles, but the 6 letter one can be made in various ways. i've a messy. unsatisfying solution I might have to settle for to be rid of this one.
Ruthrobin, your compassion has inspired me to soldier on a little further. You imagery has refreshed my weary mind.
glad to be falling into the same traps as some others...had TACKY, have the obvious 7 and 4 and am feeling like my day's work is done. nice to be finishing (and savouring) one before the next appears!
Bellabee - If you're still stuck at the eleventh hour, this anagram may help.
Even coin counts (3-11)
Thanks for that clamzy - but managed to crack it earlier this morning.
Big thanks to ruthrobin without whose encouragement I would have given up.
Delighted that you got there Bellabee. Now we have another to struggle with - Merlin's Motley Crew.
many thanks Clamzy....helped me past another evening staring at letters! very appropriate given their low profile at the moment
I am being extremely dense again ... I have everything apart from what you grandmasters of the Listener have labelled the two 3 letters abbreviations .... aaarrrgghhh!

I don't finish the Listener too often and being stuck by this is killing me!

Help!
OK ... I gather not many of you read this at this stage ... but I finally got the abbreviations ... both the same ... and I finished my 12th one this year so far ... I think! ... not bad for a frog! ... Vive la Rpublique et les membres de l'assemble! A ca ira ... ca ira ...
gorf1962, you are really looking for 2 two-letter abbreviations with an 's' on the end, making 3 letters. They are well known abbreviations of people you'd see in the thematic place, one on each side of the grid.

Hope that helps!
Nothing to do with the club in question, but this link might provide a hint
