I had to come home early today because I nearly passed out at work. I was fine this morning and then about 10am I started to feel light-headed and dizzy. There is no air-conditioning at work and the thermometer on the wall said 30degs cent. The Accommodation Unit won't let us open any windows as someone jumped from the 18 floor window over 10 years ago and it is prohibited.
I feel for anyone who is a manual/physical worker. How are you all coping with the heat?
Yes I know I'm moaning again but I enjoy a good moan and its what I do best.
Accommodation Unit deal with the upkeep of the building. We have this thing called climate control which is supposed to keep everything cool in summer and keep the building warm in winter. It doesn't work surprise surprise! The thing is if the temperature goes below 16c in winter then we would have to be sent home, however there is no maximum or limit to temperature being high under H&S guidelines.
Not much point in having fans if all they are doing is moving warm stale air around sqad. There needs to be some fresh air from open windows to make them any use at all.
thats another point Daffy. The fans just circulate warm air. We have proper air-conditioning units in the areas that the public come in for their visas but the back office are not entitled to these. I think I'm going to have to put in an appeal to get one.
Unfortunately Leg we can't bring our own fans in. Something to do with PAT testing and all that crap. They can only be issued by the Accommodation Unit.
I have been sipping water and some Ribena all day.
daffy...i disagree.
We have ceiling fans and AC units.
You feel hot because there is a layer of persperation covering your body. The fan cause this layer to evaporate, making you feel cooler although the air temperature remains the same.
tigger needs to complain to her M.P those working conditons are more like Alec Guinees in the sweat box in Bridge over the River Kwai..........totally ridiculous.
