Johnny Depp has gone on record as saying that the best actor he has ever seen is Paul Whitehouse (from the Fast Show). I kknow he said it a while ago, but is there any valid arguement about his opinion?

Just check out the range of characters that PW plays in The Fast Show, and with Harry Enfield -

and just look at the differences in all of them. They are all utterly different individual rounded characters, and there are fifteenof them that I can think of off the top of my head!
As someone who thinks thast Johnny Depp is probably the finest screen actor of his generation, I regard this as highest, and totally deserved praise for PW who is totally underrated as acharacter actor of consumate skill.

Actually dancairo, it's not subjective, it's objective.
The measure of an individual's skill in performance is not related to the amount of public adoration they receive. The public liking something is not at all the same as it being sonsidered by any meaningful status. If it were, the X-Factor finalists would - for three months at least - be 'better' thanBob Dylan.
Paul Whitehouse's skill as an actor is just that - skill, nothing at all to do with the popularity of his show, although one does preclude the other.
Skill is one thing, popularity is another.
