I think I have all the answers, unclued entries and writer, but am left with a possible second ambiguity!
Have I made a mistake or am I missing something?
MLN:RUGBY, if you consider the quote, you'll see that the seven down clues all keep the original first and last letters on entry, so the first barred-off cell, as the opening letter, must be the I, and the other one the L

Found this Inquisitor the hardest for some time!!
Yes, Kea's puzzles are never easy, but he is regarded as one of the very best Listener setters. A lovely puzzle called Admission a few weeks ago was a tour de force in construction. I think an effort has been made to make the Inquistor of similar standard to the Listener recently, and some have certainly been pretty tough, notably the poets and lottery one. Doubtless not to everyone's taste, but I've enjoyed them
