All answers can be found in Yorkshire:

1. Black, for example, English and French (6)

Absolutely stuck with this one.

2. Building follows horse in shallow receptacle (14, 2 words)

I'm hung up on Dishforth for 2, but can't come up with a 5 letter word to follow. OS Map doesn't show any features in Dishforth area, so I'm probably way out.

Thought I'd try the crossword section first as they're cryptic clues. Unfortunately the second clue doesn't give the breakdown of the two words, e.g 9,5.

I think the answer to 1. is 'Prince'.

The Black Prince was of English/French parentage, and there's a statue of him in City Square, Leeds.

Still struggling with the second one. I've posted in Quizzes & Puzzles as well. Thanks for the suggestion.
