It helps to give the clue number Junkman. This one is 33 - and it isn't the officer in charge - it's the officer 'commanding'. That's important to finding the answer. Not easy to give a clue for it, but the answer is another word for 'defector', and it includes another word for 'thanks'.

Put 'defector' into a synonyms website and see what you come up with.
