Down to the final four of the year now, for those who are still in for an all correct year. (Sadly my own ambition dies some weeks ago due to a careless error of transcription.)
Have not started yet, but first impressions are that it is going to be OK.

I found this quite satisying and also learned something new although a bit of a slog with the last few clues. Still can't see some wordplays eg 51A. Clever title.
Thanks, Cruciverbali. There must be something psychological that makes me overlook the little words in these cases. I must just assume that the particles, conjunctives etc are there to fill the gap between teh real words. Happy now.
I thought this was quite tough going - usual business of trying to sift through the misprints - but all pretty fair and a quite unexpected ending. I'm afraid I agree about Mysterons' response. Glad I'd completed before I came and looked. There clearly is a mechanism for removing posts - I noticed that that had happened last week or the week before. If one of us feels that a reply is inappropriately explicit can we remove it or do we flag it up?
You are welcome Philoctetes.

Foxy33 - the town you are looking for is in NW Wales, on the edge of Snowdonia.
I have been enjoying this, my first, proper attempt at a Listener Crossword. I have almost completed the grid and have had the pdm (thank you for the subtle nudges) and am generally quite pleased with myself. I do, however, have a couple of murky areas. Any subtle pointers that you could give me on 27d and 48a would be more than welcome. I seem to have a complete blindspot with them.
As is usual in these things, about two minutes after posting I have found my error - wrong nest in 45a - which has resolved all my problems. Except.... I am not at all happy with the answer to 27d which is, I think, wrongly pluralised. There is no plural shown in my Chambers but looking on google I cannot find the word as it is used in ths case. I would be pleased to be shown the error of my assumption.
The first 3 letters are the 'unit' (an abbreviation) followed by is, surrounding a 3-letter word for 'chess pieces'.
Wonderful how it all came together and educational too - like others I struggle with 13d although a suitable role is quite evident, likewise the final letters of 11d and 37d appear elusive and in 5d the Strix leads me to a 3 lettered bird
Thank you Mysterons, that confirms my thoughts. My comments on the pluralised definition still stand though!
7lattens - Try inserting something meaning "suitable" into the word you've probably decided on for 13d and see what you get
Thanks Cruncher - what a "cart" I am !!!
37 down is a homophone; add a letter to the front of 11 down for a noun meaning 'starting' (= scaring)
Tough one this. Thank the Lord for Wikipedia.
Yes, agreed, emcee. Just finished, and the PDM was comfortingly clear after all the graft. I found the clues very tough, which always makes me find some of the 'easy' ones tougher than they should be...49a was one of my last! I'm not sure what the technical term is, but many of the defintions are also cryptic, take 5d for example.
There's one wordplay I'm not sure about, not one that people have already mentioned, but the answer is fully checked. I suspect my couplet is a bit awry giving me an incorrect mistake - I'll think about it a bit longer!
Thanks for an interesting subject.
No enlightenment overnight. It's the wordplay, or more specifically, the misprint for 9D causing me trouble. I'm sure the answer is clear from the first four words, but in my mind this would give the same misprinted letter as 1D in the third last word, rather than, say, the misprint in 42D which I have from the couplet. For the sake of sanity, can someone please give me a gentle nudge?
Dear Jacinth, I'll try (without upsetting anybody). You need your 42d misprint again here - in the third last word (third last letter of it) and my interpretation is that this gives you a word which is a rather obscure synonym of your three-letter solution - a rather more violent meaning than you are thinking of. Hope that puts you out of your misery - though I think we'll all be waiting 2 weeks and 2 days to be sure.
I think you have the correct misprint (second letter) - giving a verb with the sense to outwit or cheat.
Thanks Ruthrobin and Mysterons for your nudges - I don't think they'll upset anyone. I was just after peace of mind, I wasn't in any doubt of the answer itself, and the couplet isn't required for the submission!
I've not heard that meaning before, but it can be gleaned from what's in Chambers. Another annotation for my Bradford's.
I do like the couplet - must be my lowbrow tastes. Probably why I like G&S too.
Do we not have to take the incorrect letter from 15a (i.e. the letter printed in the clue) to form the word in the couplet?
